NSW Government funding supports new Dimension Data Global Service Centre in Sydney

Dimension Data today announced its plans to open a second Global Service Centre (GSC) in Australia.  The centre, to be based in the Sydney suburb of North Ryde, will be established in partnership with the NSW Government with assistance from Industry and Investment NSW.

It is projected that in its first full year of operation 130 people will be employed in the Sydney-based GSC, expanding to more than 300 jobs, ranging from graduates to highly skilled technical engineers by the end of 2015.

Today, Dimension Data’s Melbourne-based GSC provides services to all of the company’s clients nationally. The facility provides 24x7 technical IT support services for networks, storage, servers, desktop environment, business applications, contact centres, security and other related services.  The Melbourne centre employs approximately 300 technical staff.

The Sydney GSC will provide similar services 24x7, ensuring greater continuity for clients nationwide.  The centre will create job opportunities for highly talented IT professionals in NSW who offer extensive levels of technical expertise and specialisation, as well as expanding the existing Dimension Data graduate program.

Ken Westwood, Dimension Data’s Chief Operating Officer, believes that the NSW Government’s support of the Sydney GSC reflects Dimension Data’s continued commitment to local development and the provision of local delivery of core services to clients. “Through this investment, Dimension Data will increase its commitment to the NSW community by providing greater employment opportunities in the local IT sector, and we hope this will also help to raise the profile of IT as a career choice to tertiary students,” said Mr Westwood.

“We are delighted with the NSW Government’s support in joint investment with the establishment of the Sydney-based GSC, together with development of local talent which will be an excellent long-term business decision.”

“We are a proud employer in Australia, which has been reflected in our recognition as one of three current Hewitt Best of the Best Employers in Australia and New Zealand. We have also been recognised by our local clients, winning the BRW Client Choice Award for Best Professional Services Firm in NSW in 2010,” he explained.

NSW Treasurer, The Hon. Eric Roozendaal, agreed that local investment is the key to success.

“We believe that investing in local infrastructure and the local workforce is critical to the success of New South Wales in a national and global marketplace. We strongly support Dimension Data’s commitment to the local workforce and particularly admire this opportunity to expand Dimension Data’s graduate program to offer additional opportunities for graduates from NSW tertiary institutions,” he said.
