Primus Telecom launches NBN broadband services for the next generation in Tasmania

Announces competitive NBN Tasmania Plans and Pricing

Primus Telecom today announced the launch of it services on the National Broadband Network (NBN) in selected regional towns in Tasmania. Primus Telecom is one of only a few Retail Service Providers to offer Fibre to the Home (FTTH) services to the regional towns that are part of NBN Tasmania’s initial roll-out. They include Smithton, Scottsdale and Midway Point.

Primus CEO Ravi Bhatia said: “We are thrilled to be one of the first ISPs to provide state-of-the-art communications in Tasmania through the NBN. We’re particularly excited that our customers will have access to a wide range of new capabilities and advanced services using this new generation high-speed fibre to the home (FTTH) network. This is a key milestone in Australian communications history and we are proud to be part of it.”

Primus is offering residential and business customers broadband services for the next generation, including streaming ABC i-View and advanced corporate voice offerings, including Primus Telecom’s new Accella VoIP product and future High-Definition video and movies on demand services.

“Fibre-to-the-Home services have arrived in Australia, bringing the future of internet services to homes and businesses via NBN Tasmania. This is the first opportunity for many of these customers to receive an internet experience of the future, incorporating richer media, high-definition video, Internet Television (IPTV) and other advanced services.” said Ravi Bhatia.

Primus’ standard NBN Tasmania broadband plans start from $39.95 per month when bundled with a phone plan on a 12 or 24-month plan. Telephone plans start from $24.95 per month, with local and national calls included.

The iPrimus Max FTTH plan is available half price for the first six months and includes local, national and mobile calls# as well as high speed broadband for $44.97 per month for the first six months. Line rental is included on this 24 month plan and the set-up and a wireless router are free of charge^, representing great value for residents in Smithton, Scottsdale and Midway Point.

Primus anticipates that over the next few years the provision of high speed services in Tasmania will lead to the development of new high tech service industries and highly skilled and well paid technology related jobs in Tasmania.

iPrimus General Manager, Marketing & Products, Andrew Sims said: “It’s a great opportunity for broadband users in these towns to experience broadband for the next generation at lightening speeds. Previously, they would have missed out on competitive broadband and telephone offerings due to being outside metropolitan areas. These plans bring real competition for broadband services to these areas.”
