Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner today officially opened the new global service centre of specialist ICT services and solutions provider Dimension Data Australia at Macquarie Park.
The NSW Department of Trade and Investment worked with Dimension Data to help secure the $107 million investment for Sydney.
“Dimension Data’s ongoing investment in the new global services centre at Macquarie Park is a vote of confidence in NSW as a business location,” Mr Stoner said.
“This facility has been built to provide 24-hour, seven day a week technical support for companies spanning a range of sectors, including financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, manufacturing, government and education.
“Dimension Data, a global specialist IT services and solution provider, employs over 1,600 people in Australia, with over 550 staff based here in NSW.
“The global service centre currently employs 130 people but the company expects it will grow to employ over 300 people over the next five years. We welcome these high-skilled, IT-related jobs for NSW’s growing digital economy.”
Dimension Data Australia’s Chief Executive Officer Rodd Cunico said employment in the global service centre had grown since it first began operating in February, providing career opportunities for prospective employees looking to enter the local IT sector.
“We have also been able to both win and retain major national and NSW-based managed services and outsourcing clients, with the local support we are able to provide from our new North Ryde operational base,” Mr Cunico said.
Mr Stoner said Sydney offered many advantages as a business location – a multilingual workforce; competitive costs; reliable technology infrastructure; a stable business environment; and a time zone that allows companies to provide quality 24-hour customer services to global markets.
“NSW accounts for 39 per cent of ICT businesses and industry value-added output in Australia,” Mr Stoner said.
“In 2009-10, 164,000 people were employed in the ICT sector in NSW, representing 4.7 per cent of total employment in NSW and around 37 per cent of Australian employment in the ICT industry.
“Dimension Data’s new global service centre is a positive addition to our ICT industry.”
