The local Australian online advertising market reached $14.2 billion for the financial year ending 30th June 2023 according to the IAB Australia Online Advertising Expenditure Report (OAER) prepared by PwC. All categories recorded growth despite challenging economic conditions and a strong comparative period which included the Summer and Winter Olympics and a federal election. However, overall growth slowed to 1.8% year-on-year, compared to the 22% year-on-year growth recorded in FY 2022.
Total online advertising growth slowed in the first quarter of 2020 to deliver overall year-on-year growth of 3.8% according to the IAB Australia Online Advertising Expenditure Report (OAER). The Report compiled by PwC, found that the drop in expenditure traditionally experienced after the December holiday quarter was more pronounced this year, with the total advertising in Q1 reaching $2,286m in expenditure.

The independent report, which has been detailing key online market trends since 2007, includes for the first time data points about the rate of programmatic buying, as well as CTV video advertising revenue data.
Australian marketers support for digital advertising has continued to strengthen, with the latest data from PwC showing that overall digital advertising revenues have increased 11% year on year, while video has increased 45% year on year.
